CHAPTER 47 FINDING MARY
Mrs. Fitzwilliam's face turned red with rage as she slammed her hand on the armrest. "What do you mean she's escaped?" she spat, her voice venomous. "How could you let this happen?"
The guard trembled, "I-I'm sorry, ma'am. She must have slipped out while I was on an errand. I didn't think she'd try to escape."
Mrs. Fitzwilliam's eyes narrowed. "You didn't think? That's precisely the problem. You didn't think. Now, find her. Find her and bring her back to me. Do you understand?"
The guard nodded frantically. "Y-yes, ma'am. I'll find her. I swear it."
Mrs. Fitzwilliam's expression turned icy. "See that you do. I won't tolerate such incompetence in my household. Now, go!"
The guard scurried off, leaving Mrs. Fitzwilliam to seethe in anger. She paced back and forth in the room, her mind racing with thoughts of Mary's audacity. How dare she try to escape? Didn't she know the consequences of her action?
