#Chapter 26 Ambitious
Aaron’s POV
I’ve seen the headlines.
“Where Is President Kensington?”
“Aaron Kensington’s Silence Speaks Volumes”
“President or Puppet?”
The last one stings the most. The older I get, the more I start to see the strings pulling at me in every direction, the ones I’ve been raised to believe don’t exist. But now that I see them, they can’t be unseen.
The Ashfords have been manipulating me for years, maybe decades. The idea that the public is starting to notice is a bigger embarrassment than I’ve ever known. Though no one has named the Ashford family as my puppet masters as of yet.
Even with the riots my silence is apparently stirring up, I can’t muster the energy to appear in front of the cameras or even type up a one-hundred-character statement for social media. The pain consumes me, weighs me down, and I willingly disappear into it, convinced I’ll never get out.
