NATALIE’S POV The air felt thick with darkness after Memphis disappeared. Nobody moved for several long, heavy seconds until Ted suddenly snarled, shifting into his wolf once more. His eyes were wild with fury. I could feel his grief through my wolf. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. I couldn’t imagine what it would feel like to lose a loved one. “I’ll never forget her scent,” he growled through clenched teeth, “I’ll hunt her down. I’ll tear her apart for what she did to my boy.” Before anyone could stop him, Ted bolted into the woods. My heart lurched. No—he’ll get himself killed. Without thinking, I shifted. I could feel Kaia’s power wrapping around me. My paws hit the ground hard, and I raced after him. “Nat!” I heard Liam call behind me, but I couldn’t stop. All I could think of was Ted running headfirst into danger, blinded by rage. He wasn’t thinking straight. I had a feeling that he might do something stupid or get himself into trouble.
