ELIZA’S POV
The wind howled as I ran. My muscles burned with exhaustion, but I couldn’t stop. Not yet.
If the King discovered I had left the pack lands, he would hunt me down without mercy.
His soldiers would be relentless, and I couldn’t risk being dragged back—not before I found what I was looking for.
Faster. Keep going.
I pushed forward, ignoring the ache in my legs.
My wolf was restless and eager. She wanted to slow down, to breathe in the unfamiliar scents of the land.
The southern border was a place neither of us had ever been to before, and there was something strangely enticing about it.
Stay longer.
Her whisper came through my mind. It sounded tempting. I clenched my jaw. No.
I had no time to waste. Sightseeing wasn’t an option. I had to keep moving.
By the time it was dawn, I covered more than two hundred miles. Even for me, the journey had been brutal. My legs trembled as I finally slowed.
I shifted back into my human form just outside a small town in the valley.
