"Did you give us the wrong baby? There's no mixed blood in our family—how could our child have different hair and eye colors?" Barbara grabbed the nurse's arm, his eyes filled with panic. The nurse gave Barbara and Oliver a sympathetic glance before replying gently, "There's no mistake. Your daughter-in-law was the only one in the delivery room." Silence fell as Oliver and Barbara froze in place. Just then, Melissa was wheeled out of the operating room by the doctor. Without a word, he shoved the baby into her arms, his voice like ice. "Explain this. Now." Melissa blinked, confused—until she looked down and saw the child's face. Her eyes widened in horror. No way. There had only been that one night. How could this have happened? "This can't be. I took the morning-after pill. This baby—can't be his!" "Emergency contraception isn't 100% effective," the nurse responded quietly, unable to resist adding a little science to the drama. That single sentence was all it took. Oli
