Ethan’s POV
Rachel remained in a coma, her condition unchanged. Day after day, the monitors beeped with the same slow rhythm, offering no sign of hope, no flicker of improvement.
One afternoon, Katelyn sat across from Rachel’s attending physician in a quiet consultation room. The doctor’s expression was calm, but the weight of his words struck like a blow.
He gently brought up the possibility of considering alternative options, of preparing for the worst. Then, with practiced softness, he suggested that it might be time to discuss ending treatment for Rachel.
The moment the words left his mouth, Katelyn stiffened. Her hands curled into fists on her lap, and her voice shook with restrained fury as she responded.
She didn’t raise her voice, but her rejection was sharp and absolute. ”Letting Rachel go wasn’t an option. Not now. Not after everything”.
“She’s still fighting,” Katelyn whispered, her throat tight. “We have to keep believing in her. We have to wait.”
“She’s not gone,” she said
