Cressida didn't want to stay another second and turned to leave the banquet hall. The suffocating feeling in her chest made it hard to breathe. She stepped out of the crowded, glaring hall, but before she could catch her breath, someone grabbed her arm from the side with a viselike grip.
"Trying to leave?" Luther asked sharply. "After playing me for a fool, you think you can just walk away?"
Cressida struggled to break free, but his hand wouldn't budge, squeezing her arm with terrifying force.
"Mr. Strudwick, please let me go," she said flatly.
"Let you go?" he asked, dragging her several steps into a deserted corner of the hallway.
"Cressida, what the hell am I to you? Those three years you were good to me, the way you cared, and the way you looked at me… Was all of that fake? Tell me."
His accusation sounded desperate and absurd. The irritation Tristan had sparked earlier turned into pure hatred for Luther.
