Chapter 108: Ultimatums
Amelia was in the garden, enjoying the peaceful afternoon sun when she saw Cynthia approaching. She immediately felt a sense of unease. Cynthia had never liked her, and any conversation between them was bound to be tense.
“Amelia,” Cynthia called out, her voice carrying an edge.
Amelia turned to face her, forcing a smile. “Aunt Cynthia, what a surprise. I was just—”
“We need to talk. Now.” Cynthia cut her off, her expression cold and unyielding.
Amelia’s smile faltered.
“Of course. What is it?”
Cynthia motioned for her to sit on a nearby bench. Amelia complied, her heart pounding in her chest. Cynthia remained standing, looming over her like a judge about to pass a sentence.
“I’ve had enough of your presence here, as you are already aware, I never liked you for one bit,” Cynthia began, her voice low and dangerous. “I saw you with William, and this has to end.”
Amelia swallowed hard, trying to maintain her composure.
“Aunt, I believe you are already aware but…”
