I was on the verge of tears. I knew Yelena meant well and was showering me with affection.
But the problem was—I was allergic to mango. Still, I couldn't reveal my true identity, so I had no choice but to take the dessert with a forced smile. "Thank you, Mom."
I placed the mango crepe on my plate. When Yelena wasn't looking, I quickly transferred it to a napkin I had prepared earlier, pretending I had already eaten the crepe.
"That was fast," she exclaimed.
I wiped my mouth with the napkin, trying to look natural. "Yes, I was a bit hungry," I replied sheepishly.
Yelena didn't tease me and even offered to get me another piece. I quickly stopped her. "Don't trouble yourself, Mom. I can get it myself."
Seeing my insistence, she relented. I slowly sipped my coffee and surveyed the pastries on the table, trying to decide what to eat next.
