Madeline cut her off. "Listen to me first. Yesterday, one of my elders at home fell critically ill all of a sudden. It was an urgent situation, so I had to rush to the hospital. I didn't have time to report it to you, but that was an oversight on my part."
Madeline's tone was sincere. "I know you care deeply about the company and have high expectations of me. If anything like this happens again in the future, I'll be sure to communicate with you in advance."
Madeline spoke gently, without the slightest hint of sarcasm.
