The moment those words left Claire's mouth, the entire room fell into stunned silence. Her friends exchanged bewildered looks, their faces full of shock and disbelief. "Claire, are you out of your mind? Why would you say yes to that?" Claire ignored them all. Her eyes remained locked on Ashton's back, her voice trembling as she clung to her last shred of pride. "I mean it, Ash… I'll wait for you—until you and Giselle…" She paused, her next words feeling like shards of glass caught in her throat. "Get married and then divorce. As long as you come back to me, I'm willing to wait." Desperate, dramatic, yet so disgustingly late. Without so much as flinching, Ashton walked out of the hospital room.
