Chapter 48

I shook my head and chuckled. "People like her wear their hearts on their sleeves. I just don't want to waste any more time on her." I wasn't sure what Yaeger had said to Lilith, but she hadn't bothered me since then. Having left Storm Corporation, it was time to start my own venture. The next day, I drove straight to the administrative warehouse as I planned to set up a small office space inside. After all, the company was just starting and had yet to have a large budget. As I arrived at the warehouse entrance, I saw a red car parked there. Skye had arrived early. She was on the phone and quickly jotting down notes on a paper. She was captivating even when she worked, making it hard not to steal a few glances. She seemed to notice me too. After hanging up, she walked over to me with a gentle smile. "Welcome, Mr. Schmitt." I smiled and saw Skye point to the sign on the floor near the door. She asked, "How do you like the company name?" Following her gaze, I saw the sign—SchmittHeron Corporation. I hadn't expected it, but she had named the company after both of us! I laughed and nodded. "I like it." "I've already posted job openings, and we've received quite a few resumes. I've shortlisted some suitable candidates for you to review." I was impressed by Skye's efficiency and competence. I took the list and decided to schedule interviews for the afternoon. "Here are a few companies interested in collaborating with us. I've done a preliminary review. Their credentials are solid. If you agree, we can arrange meetings with them." Skye handed me another stack of documents. Seeing her bustling around, I couldn't help but smile and tease, "Anyone watching would think you're my secretary." We were supposed to be partners, but she had come here early and had almost everything sorted out. She smiled warmly, and her eyes were full of affection as she looked at me. "Mr. Schmitt, it seems that you really value my work, don't you?" "Absolutely." I nodded. Just then, my phone rang. The caller ID showed the annoying name—Lilith. I frowned and couldn't believe she was already back to bothering me after just a day of peace. She had latched onto me like a relentless hyena and wouldn't let go. I declined the call as I did not intend to entertain her, but she didn't give up. She called me over and over again. Unlike before, I now had important business calls to take, so her constant interruptions made it impossible to focus on my work. Hence, I suppressed my anger and stepped outside to take the call. "What do you want now?" Lilith asked sweetly, "Oh, Mr. Schmitt, why so angry? You startled me. There are some issues with a few contracts at the company. Come and fix them now!" Her commanding tone was infuriating. I coldly replied, "Lilith, how many times do I have to tell you that I am no longer with Storm Corporation? Your company's contract issues are not my problem. You're calling the wrong person."
