Chapter 87
Ivy pushed open the door quietly. Her father, Franklin, sat in his recliner with his eyes closed.
He stirred when he heard the creak of the door. Ivy stepped inside and stood behind him.
“Dad,” she said softly.
Ivy couldn’t bring herself to look her father in the eyes. How could she? She had hurt him deeply, and a part of her believed he would never forgive her.
Franklin suddenly stood and asked quietly, “How are you doing?”
“I’m… not good,” Ivy said, eyes downcast.
“What?” Franklin turned sharply, his voice rising. “Did that jerk hurt you?”
Ivy rushed to him and wrapped her arms around him, her eyes filled with tears. “No, Dad. He didn’t. I just... I really miss you.”
Franklin didn’t respond at first. He didn’t return the hug. Ivy’s heart sank.
Maybe he’ll never love me again.
But then, she felt his hand gently pat her back.
“I miss you too, honey,” he whispered.
“I’m sorry, Dad. I ran away,” she cried. “Please forgive me.”
