Chapter 889

Logan said in a heartbroken tone, "Once we secure the evidence and clear your name, we will make each and every scummy conspirator pay dearly for their wrongdoings. That's not all. We're also going to take back everything they used your design to get!" If a success was built on a theft, then it wasn't meant to last long. Karen stole the fame and achievement that rightfully belonged to Lorraine, and yet she was praised to the high heaven for it. Instead of expanding her career, she dreamed about marrying herself into a wealthy and prestigious family. Karen only ever had one remarkable design work in her entire career, and it was the one she stole from Lorraine. Lorraine nodded firmly in response. She had always believed that justice would prevail and that the innocent would be treated fairly. It was only a matter of time before her name would be cleared. "Actually, Karen is quite capable herself. All she needs to do is slow herself down and really work on her design concept. Then, she will be able to come out with a wonderful design. She was too eager and reckless to secure success, and that is going to cost her," Lorraine said. Then, she sighed. "Everything comes back to personal interest and success at the end of the day." The world revolved around the very concept of self-interest. ... Karen had just arrived home when she suddenly sneezed. Rosalie walked out of her room and saw Karen coming in with a suitcase before she started to sneeze several times. She approached Karen and asked in a concerned tone, "Did you catch a cold, Karen? The weather there is much colder than Glendale. I told you to bring a coat or two with you." Karen didn't tell Wesley and Rosalie when she moved in with Patrick. Instead, she lied to them and said that she needed to travel for a bit to take her mind off things. As far as they were concerned, she went to one of the cities in the north to avoid the summer heat. "I didn't catch a cold, Mom. Maybe someone somewhere is cursing me." Karen rubbed her nose before dragging her suitcase and walking over to the couch. She took a seat and looked wildly displeased. Rosalie approached Karen and looked at her. She sat next to her and asked concerningly, "What's wrong, Karen? You don't seem happy." In the past, Karen would look high-spirited whenever she returned from a trip. She would also tell her and Wesley about some of the interesting stuff she saw or did. "Where's Dad?" Karen asked. "He went fishing," Rosalie replied. Wesley had retired. Although he was still quite active in the industry, he merely did it for Karen's sake. When he had some time on his hands, he would play chess with someone or fish leisurely at a river or a lake. Wesley had quite enjoyed his stress-free retirement. The only thing that weighed on his mind was Karen's future, especially after Lorraine became part of the Moore family. He couldn't even get a good night's sleep ever since he learned about that. "Why did he go fishing again? What's the point of that? He's only wasting his time, and he only gets a few fishes for the trouble." Karen grumbled. She was in a terrible bind now. Instead of wasting his time on fishing, Wesley should figure out a plan to pull her out of her mess. "He'll just stay at home with me all day if he doesn't go fishing. We'll just end up arguing with each other," Rosalie said. She had always whined about the fact that Wesley helped Karen undermine Lorraine. That was the main reason both of them lived in constant fear and worry about the truth coming to light. The case would affect Wesley the worst too. He had been a mentor for decades, and yet his reputation hung in the balance right when he was about to retire. Karen knew why Rosalie and Wesley argued. She said, "It's pointless to say anything now, Mom. We did what we did. So, you two should just think about how best to solve this dilemma. "You have to figure out a way to make Jocelyn shut her trap for good. You also have to stop Pat from betraying me. "Mom. Pat has changed. He's taking revenge on me, and he doesn't love me anymore." Karen asked Rosalie embarrassingly, "Pat has loved me for many years, and he did so with all his heart and soul. So, how is it that he stopped loving me, just like that? How could he bring himself to do this to me?" Rosalie was baffled and heartbroken by what she had just heard. She hastily asked, "What did Mr. Horne do to you? Didn't you go on a leisure trip?"
