The rain quickly turned into sheets.
Calliope Godfrey frowned, stood up, and walked briskly to shut the ajar window tight.
Eleanor Carmody suddenly said, “That kid Lucien Sterling… he’s still kneeling in the yard!”
Calliope didn’t pause for a second. “Let him.”
“He thought you were the villain all those years and made you suffer—this punishment is the least he deserves. Let him kneel till he figures it out.”
The storm outside was only getting worse. Rain came down in torrents, and the sky had gone completely dark.
Calliope didn’t go out. Instead, she sank into the couch, popped on her noise-canceling headphones, and focused on her tablet, scribbling down notes for her studies.
She spared a second to text Conrad Hilliard: [At my mom’s place. Having dinner here too.]
Eleanor hadn’t slept long when Dorothy knocked and said dinner was ready.
