Chapter 33

In Selena's room, Elijah had to coax her properly to get her to listen to him. Selena had such a high fever that she was a little delirious. Not only were her eyes reddened, but her face flushed a violent shade of red. Elijah bent down next to her and said with a never-before tenderness, "Be good and take this medicine. I'll get you loads of ice cream tomorrow once your fever goes down." He placed the medicine on her lips. Selena said nothing. She merely flashed her large, innocent eyes at him, as if she was worried he was going to go back on his word. "Come on, I'll really take you to buy ice cream. I promise. Take this medicine." Selena finally caved in and took the medicine. Elijah initially wanted to leave, but she tugged at the hem of his shirt. With a blush on her face and a groggy gaze, she muttered, "Can you stay? I don't want to be alone." Elijah knew that Selena was in a daze from the fever. She didn't know what she was doing, but he still asked her, "Are you sure?"
