When they reached the door, Nicholas glanced at the children eagerly watching him and smiled. Though these kids weren't living in the best conditions, they weren't sick or disabled at the very least.
In a way, they were more fortunate than most others.

A few girls, around seven or eight years old, approached and handed him small red flowers.
"There's no need to thank me."
With a smile, Nicholas took the flowers and returned them to the girls. "I've got to leave. Be sure to take good care of the orphanage from today onward. It's in your hands now."
"We will!"
"Goodbye, Mr. Jakeman!"
"We'll take good care of the orphanage!"
"Mr. Jakeman, can you visit us often?"
