Beckett's apartment.
It was already past midnight when Madeleine and Beckett finally got home. Tonight had been non-stop—chasing down Terrell, tracking Rachel—it was exhausting.
"Terrell's with the Hale family now. He's doing okay. Kids like him, as long as someone's with them, they're fine," Beckett said, trying to put her at ease.
"And what about Danna and Callen?" Madeleine frowned. She really didn't want to talk about those two. Seriously, neither of them acted like responsible adults.
"Callen? Just pretend he's dead." Beckett snorted. He had zero respect for the guy—no guts, no spine. A total letdown.
Madeleine stayed quiet for a beat, then said softly, "Back in school, Callen tried to go after me."
Beckett immediately stiffened, a muffled grunt escaping him. "Gross."
She wrapped her arms around him from behind and leaned in. "But whenever I actually needed support, he was nowhere to be found. Always the first to run away."
"And he thought he had a chance with you?" Beckett scoffe
