After bringing Chase home, I looked at him with a hint of guilt and said, "I'm really sorry you had to get hurt because of me."
"Don't worry. We have security cameras at the gate. If you want to press charges, I'll absolutely be on your side."
Chase gave a soft smile. "Oh yeah? You'll always be on my side?"
I patted my chest confidently. "Of course. Compared to Timothy, you're the one closest to me now."
Chase looked at me gently. "What I said earlier wasn't a joke. Maybe you should think about it?"
I suddenly felt awkward. What did Chase mean by that?
His gaze was warm, and just as he was about to say more, I quickly took a step back.
"Sorry, Chase, I think I heard the baby crying. I'll go check on him. Make yourself at home."
Without waiting for his response, I hurried upstairs.
