Chapter 708
"B-But, Mr. Xander, t-the Grandmaster… He…" stammered the subordinate who stood just outside the meeting room.
He was in such panic that he couldn't speak properly.
"What happened to Joshua?" Jackson growled.
Finally, the subordinate muttered, "The Grandmaster refused to see you."
"What did you say!" Jackson's face darkened.
Why did Joshua refuse to see him?
"Did something happen?" Jackson frowned. His gut told him that something had gone terribly wrong.
"The Grandmaster didn't tell me why. He simply told me that the Novian Guild is currently under renovation, so he doesn't have the time to see you."
"Renovation?" The frown on Jackson's face deepened.
Then, he remembered that the Four Great Warriors showed up during the fight. Did something happen at the Novian Guild?
"Did you find out what happened over at the guild?" he asked.
"No. I wasn't allowed to go inside, so I have no idea what happened," said the subordinate. "I think it has something to do with the Four Great Warriors, though."
"Okay," said Jackson thoughtfully. "I'll head over to the guild myself in two days."
He inhaled deeply and added, "Look into what Cameron's doing these days and report to me after that!"
"Okay, Mr. Xander."
"You may leave." Jackson dismissed his subordinate with a wave of his hand.
A gloom fell across his face. All the signs told him that Cameron had everything to do with these occurrences.
If the other major families agreed to work with him, they'd be able to get rid of Cameron easily.
However, the heads of those families doubted him and even questioned his words.
"They're all useless fools! Someday, I'll get rid of all of them too!" Jackson seethed.
He clenched his hands tightly by his sides, and a chilling, murderous look flashed in his eyes.
At the hospital on the other side of the city, Daphne finally woke up after ten hours of sleep.
She looked way better than she did the day before. Color had returned to her previously pallid face.
"Daphne! You're awake!" Cameron exclaimed in joy the moment he saw her open her eyes.
"Mr. Cameron? Did you stay here all night?" Daphne asked, her eyes watering when she saw Cameron standing beside her.
She was beyond grateful to see him there.
"It wasn't even that long," said Cameron with a smile. He didn't want her to worry or feel burdened.
"I know you. You're lying," she pouted.
She felt warm inside. It felt so good to be able to see Cameron again.
"Nothing ever gets past you, silly." Cameron chuckled.
"Why, of course." Daphne harrumphed.
She reached up to her face to take off the oxygen mask.
"Allow me," said Cameron.
Now that Daphne had regained consciousness, she didn't need to rely on the mask anymore.
"Okay." Daphne nodded like an obedient child.
After helping her remove the mask, Cameron helped her sit up in the bed.
Just then, Laura and Tracey came back from buying some necessities outside.
When they saw Daphne, they ran over to her excitedly.
"Daphne, you're finally awake!"
"Yes." Daphne nodded lightly. "Hi, ladies."
"Here. Take this. I bought these fruits for you," said Tracey as she handed over a bag of fruits to Daphne. "Which one do you want to eat first?"
"I bought you some snacks," Laura said, handing over a bag of snacks. "Have a look."
"Thank you!" Daphne exclaimed, shocked at the attention she was getting.
Cameron, on the other hand, sniffed a little, upset at how she was getting all the attention.
"Take your pick, Daphne. Don't rush. They're all yours." Cameron ruffled her hair.
Then, to Laura and Tracey, he said, "Thanks."
