When Felix got up and walked towards Evelyn, Amelia quickly pulled away from George's embrace with an awkward smile.
Blushing a little, she met Evelyn's eyes. "You're back! Have you eaten? There's leftover tomato soup on the stove—I made a big batch this afternoon. Let me warm you up a bowl?"
As she spoke, she was already moving toward the kitchen.
"She's got hands and feet, does she not? Let her get it herself," George snapped, grabbing Amelia's arm to stop her.
As he finished, he shot Evelyn a look full of disdain. "Never home, always running around like some wild thing. You're a girl—act like it."
Amelia gave a light, soft smile. "It's fine, taking care of Evelyn is something I should do anyway. Besides, she's still young. It's totally normal to want to have some fun."
George's face eased a bit, but his tone was still harsh. "She's got no ambition, wastes her days doing nothing. All she knows is how to laze around."
