Chapter 2
I nodded stiffly before humming in response.
The doctor adjusted his glasses before saying calmly, "Your condition is delicate. If you go through with the abortion this time, you may not get pregnant ever again. Are you sure you want to take this risk?"
I looked up abruptly. "I'll never get pregnant again?"
"Exactly. Your uterine lining is thin. If you decide to get an abortion, it'll be very hard for you to get pregnant in the future…"
My fingers trembled slightly. Lucas was clearly aware of my condition, yet he still wanted me to abort the baby for Megan. I bit my lip hard until I tasted blood in my mouth. Suddenly, I felt a strange flutter in my belly. It was like a gentle kick.
I suddenly grabbed the doctor's wrist. "Quick, stop! I don't want to abort the baby anymore!"
The doctor frowned. "Mrs. Johnson, your husband has given special instructions…"
"I said I don't want to do it!" I roared as I sat up on the operation table. I took off the surgical gown, exclaiming, "I want to keep the baby!"
As I walked out of the hospital, the sunlight seemed to blind me. I checked my phone and saw the top trending topic—"Lucas Johnson and Megan Litt Go Shopping at a High-End Baby Boutique."
A photo showed Lucas carefully supporting Megan's lower back as she caressed her swollen belly. The comment section was full of praise.
"They're the perfect match—a gorgeous actress and Willowvale's wealthy tycoon! They're meant for each other!"
"Megan's already pregnant. Why is Mrs. Johnson getting in the way of Mr. Johnson and Ms. Litt's love story?"
"I heard that Mrs. Johnson got pregnant with a bastard child after she went missing for a few days. Mr. Johnson was kind enough not to divorce her right away!"
"Who knows if she really did go missing? She probably had an affair!"
I dug my fingernails into my palm, yet I didn't seem to feel the pain.
"Sweetheart, don't be scared." I caressed my belly. "I'll definitely protect you."
I headed for a law firm so that I could get the divorce papers processed.
Later, when I arrived at the villa, the front door was slightly ajar. I pushed open the door and saw Megan lying on the couch. Lucas' hands were on her swollen belly.
"Lucas, the baby kicked me again!" Megan giggled as she grabbed Lucas' hand and placed it on her belly.
Lucas' expression softened. I had never seen such gentleness from him before. "He really did."
I stood at the entrance, clenching my fists.
Upon noticing me, Lucas' expression shifted. He strode over and lowered his voice. "Kylie, Megan threatened to kill herself again today. The doctor said she has prenatal depression. Why don't you… avoid her for now?"
I sneered, "This is my home."
Lucas' voice softened. "I grew up with her, so I can't leave her like this. Once she has given birth, I'll find a way to send her and the baby away. Maybe she can try her luck at Bariwood."
Without a word, I turned to head upstairs. Even from my bedroom, I could still hear Lucas and Megan giggling.
"Oh, the baby kicked me!" Megan's voice sounded extremely sweet.
I curled up on my bed. My pillow was quickly drenched in tears.
Late at night, Lucas quietly climbed into bed and hugged me from the back. His voice was hoarse when he said, "Kylie, I'm sorry. We'll have our own children one day."
I tensed all over. Lucas still had no idea that I didn't get the abortion.
Suddenly, we heard Megan's shrill scream from next door. "Don't touch me! Get away from me! Don't touch me! Don't take my photos!"
Lucas instantly sprang out of bed. He dashed out of our room without even wearing his slippers. The whole night, I kept hearing his tender voice drifting down the hallway as he gently comforted Megan.
In the morning, I finally headed downstairs, still feeling exhausted. The smell of fried eggs drifted from the kitchen.
