Chapter 3
Lucas stood in front of the stove as Megan quietly wrapped her arms around his waist from behind. She pressed her face against his back and smiled sweetly.
Upon noticing me, Megan immediately let go of Lucas and said timidly, "Hey, Kylie. I'm having a mild headache. Could I ask Lucas to bring me my hat?"
Without a word, Lucas headed upstairs.
Megan's apologetic expression vanished right away. She smirked as she approached me. "Lucas said you should've never kept that bastard child."
I quickly looked up as my fingers trembled uncontrollably.
Megan merely laughed scornfully before lowering her voice. "Ever heard of the Floyds? They have my back."
She paused deliberately as she enjoyed my horrified expression. "All the Floyds have to do is lift a finger and the entire Willowvale will tremble. How can you even compete with me?"
The Floyds were the real deal. They were an elite family that had been controlling the country's economy for the past hundred years. The Johnsons were nothing compared to the Floyds. Even if all of Willowvale's powerful families united as one, they were still insignificant before the Floyd family.
Megan suddenly staggered backward and fell to the floor, screaming, "Kylie! I know you despise me for stealing Lucas from you! I'll kill myself now!"
"Megan!" Lucas dashed downstairs before roughly shoving me aside. I stumbled backward and hit the coffee table. I felt a sharp pain in my lower back.
Lucas held Megan in his arms protectively as he glared at me icily. "What did you do to her? Can you stop causing trouble for no reason?"
"I didn't do anything!" My voice trembled.
"You better not have!" Lucas wrapped his arms tightly around Megan as they walked out of the villa without even looking back. "Megan, let's go."
I stood in the living room, unconsciously placing my hand over my belly.
…
Two days had passed since Lucas had returned. I stood in the living room as I took down our wedding photo. The frame fell into the rubbish bin with a muffled thud.
Then, my phone vibrated, and the screen lit up. "Kylie, I sent someone to pick up something. Please hand it to him."
In the wardrobe, a jewelry set worth millions of dollars had been kept in a drawer. After Lucas won the bid successfully, he told me that the jewelry set was for the most important person in his life.
I stared at the jewelry set for a long time. I suddenly laughed before taking it from the drawer with a nonchalant expression. I handed the box to the driver before reaching for the divorce papers. I said calmly, "Hold on. Give me a ride. I'll deliver these to him myself."
The driver hesitated but still let me into the car. Eventually, we stopped in front of a luxurious estate. The lights inside shone brightly, and I heard music playing softly in the background.
"Happy birthday, Ms. Litt!" A wave of well-wishes drifted from the estate.
As soon as I walked in, everyone instantly looked at me.
"Isn't that Mrs. Johnson? Why is she dressed like that? It's so tacky!"
"I heard she keeps pestering Mr. Johnson, refusing to leave him. How shameless of her."
"Mr. Johnson should've dumped her long ago. Now that Ms. Litt is pregnant, why is Mrs. Johnson still sticking around?"
"I heard she intentionally pushed Ms. Litt so that she could keep Mr. Johnson by her side. Such a malicious woman…"
I ignored their comments and walked toward Lucas and Megan. He frowned upon seeing me. "Kylie, what brings you here?"
I smiled. "It's Ms. Litt's birthday. How could I not be here?"
With that, I handed him the jewelry box. "Here's the item you asked for."
Megan's eyes lit up, and she reached out to accept the box. She even intentionally opened it in front of me. "Lucas, is this for me?"
Lucas said nothing as he gazed at me with a conflicted expression.
But Megan said coquettishly, "You should help me put it on."
Lucas remained silent for a moment. Finally, he reached out to put the necklace around her neck, his fingers brushing against her skin as he did so.
Suddenly, Megan tiptoed and wrapped her arms around his neck. She kissed him hard on the cheek before looking at me with a challenging glint in her eyes.
