Elise didn't move. Her instincts told her that whatever Samuel said couldn't be trusted, but she did want the divorce finalized as soon as possible. Thus, for a moment, she was torn.
Samuel leaned against the doorframe, watching her with cold eyes. He didn't speak, as if certain she would give in and start cleaning.
The air between them grew heavy with tension. Wanda was about to call them for dinner when she saw Samuel drag Elise upstairs.
As a housekeeper, she knew it wasn't her place to meddle, but she hovered near the bottom of the staircase anyway. If Elise shouted for help, Wanda would rush up the stairs—regardless of whether she'd lose her job.
However, everything stayed quiet. Maybe the soundproofing upstairs was too good. Wanda took a few steps upward, then she heard Elise's calm voice.
"Mr. Holt, I'm not cleaning this up. If you keep stalling instead of signing the divorce papers, I'll sue you for infidelity."
