Chapter 523

Evelyn had planned to tear into Nadine as soon as she saw her. Whether she was willing to plead Gigi's case or not, Evelyn would curse her out until she agreed to do it. But as it turned out, Nadine wasn't in the bedroom where Brad now sat. The bed they used to share had been tossed out. Everything in the room had been changed, and it no longer looked the way she remembered. As soon as she spotted Brad on the couch, she changed her tune. She pretended as though she was just there to see Nadine, and she didn't mention how she had been yelling outside just a moment ago. The last thing she wanted was for Brad to settle the score with her later. Even though her tone was calm and her attitude seemed gentle, the hostility in Brad's eyes didn't fade. It was evident that his mother didn't take Nadine seriously at all when she yelled for her through the door. The only reason she could treat Nadine that way was because there was no one in this house who would stand up for her. His gaze hardened when he thought about that. He was so glad Nadine wasn't in the bedroom. Otherwise, she would've been woken up by his mother for sure. "It's late. What do you want with her at this hour, Mom? If it's really that important, I'll relay the message for you." His voice was calm, but his eyes were cold and impatient as he stared at Evelyn. It made his impassive face look even colder and solemn—like he didn't want anyone to get close. He had gone to great lengths to convince Nadine to stay, and nothing—not even God—could interrupt her rest that night. Brad would make sure of it. Evelyn glanced at his gloomy expression. Her heart sank when she realized he was on Nadine's side. "I need to talk to Nadine about this. This has nothing to do with you. Where is she? Can you get her for me?" she asked tentatively. Evelyn thought, "That little tramp sure knows how to hide. She's avoiding me and sending Brad in her place." It seemed like she had picked up a few tricks on her own. If only she knew which room Nadine was staying in, she would have barged in, dragged her out by the hair, and given her a piece of her mind. Evelyn was Nadine's mother-in-law, so Nadine had no right to talk back to her. However, she had no choice but to suppress all her dissatisfaction, forcing a smile and speaking softly in front of Brad. She wanted to lure Nadine out. Brad stared at her for a while before responding, "Forget it, Mom. Nadine's asleep, and I won't let anyone disturb her." Although his mother didn't explicitly say what she wanted with Nadine, he could tell she was up to no good. He had gone to great lengths to persuade Nadine to spend the night at Phoenix Villa. He wasn't going to let anyone disturb her. If she got woken up and decided not to come back to Phoenix Villa, how would he ever see her again? It wasn't just Evelyn; even if Adam showed up, he still wouldn't be able to see Nadine because Brad wouldn't allow it. Evelyn was taken aback after hearing that. She couldn't believe Brad would go to such lengths to defend Nadine, even more so than Jean. For a moment, she gaped at Brad's handsome face, unable to move. What the heck was going on? Why was everything so different from what she'd imagined? Why was Brad standing up for Nadine? Shouldn't he be on Jean's side?
