Chapter 528
After taking a few steps away, Evelyn abruptly remembered why she had come to Phoenix Villa in the first place. She spun back around and marched right up to Brad.
"I don't care how you plan to protect Nadine. I have only one condition: release Gigi, and I'll do my best to stop making life difficult for Nadine!"
Since her son wanted to protect Nadine, she had no choice but to negotiate with him. Evelyn felt heartbroken.
Brad didn't budge an inch. "There's nothing to talk about! After everything Gigi's done to humiliate our family, she needs to reflect on her actions. Once she stops acting out and learns how to behave, then—and only then—will I let her out."
Gigi might be his sister, but she was far too spoiled, always doing whatever she pleased. He couldn't indulge her any longer.
Evelyn felt a dull ache in her chest when she heard that. She pointed at Brad's nose and was ready to give him a piece of her mind, but she held herself back because she knew that her son was her only pillar of support when she no longer had her husband's love.
If she pushed too hard against Brad, it might shatter the fragile bond they still had as mother and son. She couldn't afford to let that happen. Gritting her teeth, she swallowed the words that were on the tip of her tongue and let out a cold scoff. Then, she spun on her heel and stormed off.
Brad watched as his mother's figure gradually disappeared down the hallway before shifting his gaze to Sean's room. When he couldn't hear a peep from inside, he let out a sigh of relief. The corners of his lips lifted slightly as he went to sleep in the room beside it.
That night, he had a dream. He dreamt of the night he'd saved Nadine. For some reason, after she was pulled to safety, she kept staring at him, studying him intently with an intensity that was not typical of how one would look at a stranger.
He couldn't help but wonder if they had met before.
…
Nadine slept exceptionally well that night. Her heart was filled with warmth and contentment as she held her son in her arms. Gentle rays of sunlight trickled in through the window, lighting up Sean's room. When she opened her eyes, she noticed that Sean was already up and sitting next to her.
The little guy stared at her as she slept with a glint in his eyes. As soon as he noticed her eyes flutter open, he bent down and gave Nadine a big, affectionate kiss. "Good morning, Mommy!"
Nadine welcomed her son's affectionate kiss as if it were the most natural thing in the world, planting one on his cheek in return. "Good morning, baby. Did you sleep well last night?"
Sean had fallen asleep around 4:00 pm last night and slept until the morning light filled the room. Nadine couldn't figure out how he managed to sleep that long.
Sean wrapped his arms around her neck and snuggled against her before asking, "Do you want to hear the truth, Mommy?"
Nadine gazed at him, puzzled. "What do you mean? Were you not being truthful before? Were you lying to me when you said you slept well?"
They had been staying at Avery's place the past few days, and every time she asked, Sean had always said he slept well. Hence, she was caught off guard when he asked her if she wanted to know the truth.
