Chapter 539

The middle-aged woman was Jean's aunt, Jessie Russel. Time and time again, she had sought out Jean, hoping that she could convince Brad to bail her son out of prison. Previously, when Jean was staying in the VIP ward at Harborview Hospital, Jessie would be interrogated like a criminal every time she visited her. Now that Jean had moved to this new hospital, no one bothered Jean with questions anymore. In addition, Jessie believed that ever since Jean moved to this hospital, she had become increasingly despondent. For the sake of her son, Jessie repeatedly visited Jean, determined to get her to talk to Brad and bail her son out. She even went as far as threatening Jean. Yet, just as she was attempting to threaten Jean this time, her beloved niece suddenly fainted in front of her, scaring her out of her wits. Fortunately, Lynn was quick-witted and immediately ran out to find a doctor. Jessie could only watch as her niece was wheeled into the emergency room, her face drained of color as she crumpled to the floor. Jessie had overheard the nurses saying that Jean's emergency treatment would cost at least 11 thousand dollars, a sum that was utterly beyond her means. Yet, if she left Jean like that, it would spell the end for her son. As such, she had no choice but to tough it out and wait. When she heard the nurses contact Brad, she saw hope. She dried her tears, scrambled to her feet, and waited eagerly for Brad's arrival. As soon as she spotted him approaching, she rushed over and grabbed the man's sleeve as if it were a lifeline. Brad had seen Jessie before. He knew she existed but didn't really care to remember her name. He only knew that she was Jean's relative, and she looked a little like her. As soon as the middle-aged woman grabbed his sleeve, his eyes became as cold as ice. If the hospital director hadn't stepped in, he would have probably kicked her out himself. Once they were inside the break room, her wails reached a fever pitch as she pointed at Brad's nose and yelled, "You heartless bastard! You married another woman and completely forgot about Jeanie! You're an ungrateful, selfish bastard!" It had taken Jessie great effort to see Brad. She was desperate for him to help get her son out of prison, but she was also aware that Brad wasn't someone she could easily bend to her will. Ultimately, she chose to remind him of Jean's sacrifices, hoping to use them to guilt-trip him. Jessie believed that once she had the upper hand, it would be easier to bring up her son's issue, and he'd be more likely to help her. Brad found this middle-aged woman repulsive. With a wave of his hand, he gestured to his bodyguards, who immediately stepped forward and forcefully shoved Jessie away until she stood a few feet from him. Brad raised a skeptical brow. He then lifted his gaze and glanced at Jessie. "Oh? I'm ungrateful? Well, if that's how you see it, then I'll play the part of an ungrateful bastard." He gestured toward the bodyguards standing in front of Jessie and said, "Let's go." Jessie was nothing but a loudmouth shrew to Brad. Her crude remarks, loud voice, and overall demeanor were incredibly off-putting. Brad was about to leave, and she couldn't stop him as his bodyguards were in her way. Jessie had no choice but to soften her tone. "Mr. Hamilton, please, don't go! Please, I beg you! I need your help!" When Brad was almost out of her line of sight, Jessie threw caution to the wind, shoving her way past the bodyguards and charging straight toward him. "Mr. Hamilton, please! Help me! I-I can tell you Jeanie's secret!" Brad merely looked at her with disgust, his brows drawing together. He found Jessie incredibly annoying and shameless. Besides, he wasn't interested in Jean's secrets. After giving her a cold look, he gestured toward his bodyguards and turned to leave.
