Chapter 538

Instead of letting her go, Brad's lips curved into a mischievous smile. "What's wrong with what I said? Isn't that exactly what I'm doing right now? If you find it boring, it must be because that guy didn't make it fun enough for you!" The couple reached a turn, and he effortlessly maneuvered the wheel with one hand while keeping a firm hold on her hand, a triumphant smile spreading across his face. He loved seeing her all flustered and irritated. She looked like a little angry pufferfish like this, and he had the urge to pinch those soft, delicate cheeks of hers. Had he not been behind the wheel, he probably wouldn't have been able to stop himself. Nadine was so furious that she didn't want to utter another word to him. She turned her face toward the window, taking in the scenery outside, refusing to waste her breath on the shameless Brad. Luckily, the car soon pulled up to Harborview Hospital's inpatient entrance. As Brad parked the car, Nadine grabbed her bag and bolted out. Her movements were swift and seamless, as if she had rehearsed them a hundred times. The car hadn't even come to a complete stop when she took off, her figure quickly disappearing into the distance. Brad watched her run away from the driver's seat, a wry smile tugging at his lips. She used to be drawn to him like a moth to a flame, but now she treated him like some kind of plague. How could he possibly change this situation? Brad was still lost in thought when his phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number. Without a moment's hesitation, he answered, "This is Brad speaking." There was a brief crackling sound on the other end, followed by the panicked voice of a nurse and a woman's whimpering. "Are you a family member of Ms. Jean Sawyer? The patient has lost consciousness and is no longer breathing! "We're currently resuscitating her, but we need a family member's consent. Please get here as soon as you can. We're racing against time here, and every second counts!" Before Brad could respond, the nurse hung up the phone. His brows knitted as he listened to the dial tone. After setting down his phone, he started the car and drove straight to Valor Military Medical Center. It was just a short ten-minute drive from Harborview Hospital. Ten minutes later, the man arrived at the emergency department with a grim expression on his face. As soon as she spotted him, Lynn rushed over. "Hurry up and sign the consent form, Mr. Hamilton! The doctors are attempting to save Ms. Sawyer right now, and if you don't act fast, she could lose her life!" Without a moment's hesitation, Brad accepted the consent form from the nurse and swiftly signed his name. Then, he turned to the teary-eyed Lynn. "What happened?" Before Lynn could respond, a middle-aged woman stormed over, yanking on Brad's shirt and yelling, "Brad Hamilton, how could you be so heartless? Jeanie gave up everything for you, and now she's suffering from this incurable illness because she can't stop thinking about you! "And instead of cherishing her, you abandoned her here at the hospital by herself. Is your heart made of stone? Don't you remember that she almost died for you when you two were so in love back then? Have you forgotten about that? "If it weren't for her, you wouldn't even be here right now!" With a tight grip on Brad's shirt, the middle-aged woman sobbed and shouted at the top of her lungs, drawing the attention of everyone around them. The hospital director recognized Brad and hurriedly stepped in to mediate. "This isn't really the best way to handle things, ma'am. Why don't we take this conversation to the break room instead?" He then turned to Brad and added respectfully, "I've prepared the break room for you, Mr. Hamilton. It's a better environment for a private discussion." Brad gave a curt nod and said, "Thank you." The director guided them to the break room. Brad, clearly annoyed, yanked away the hand gripping his shirt and snapped, "What do you want from me?"
