Chapter 537
Nadine, who had initially planned to just close her eyes and remain silent, immediately sat up straight, looking at Brad as if he were out of his mind. "Mr. Hamilton, you're really out of it, aren't you? When we get to the hospital, don't leave just yet—I'll get you an appointment to have your brain checked."
She had been living comfortably, and everything at work had been going smoothly. Why would she want to return to that prison? Was he afraid that she might forget all those painful memories? If this wasn't a deliberate attempt to disgust her, then what was?
Had she been able to hold her own against this scumbag, she would have already scratched that infuriatingly handsome face of his.
Recently, Brad had been walking on eggshells around her, afraid of upsetting Nadine again. Little did he know that one slip of the tongue was enough to set her off.
"Nadine Scott, stop testing my patience! If you keep this up, I'll make you regret it!" If he weren't holding the steering wheel, he would have taught this woman a lesson. How dare she walk all over him? He'd given her an inch, and now she was taking a mile!
Nadine wore a fearless expression. "Oh really? Go ahead then! Let's see who bites the dust first!" She was banking on the fact that his hands were occupied with the wheel, so he wouldn't be able to get at her. But she'd severely underestimated him.
As soon as her words fell, he maneuvered the wheel with one hand and reached for her with the other, grasping her hand firmly. Nadine struggled against him, and as a result, the car veered off course, heading straight for the lush greenery along the roadside. Fortunately, Brad was a skilled driver and was able to steer the car away from the greenery just in time.
Still, the incident left both of them shaken. Nadine was especially terrified and dared not move a muscle. "Brad Hamilton, are you out of your mind? It's rush hour! Let go of me and drive properly!" she screamed at the top of her lungs. Unlike this madman, she still wanted to live!
The man smirked at her and squeezed her hand. "Right, I'll drive it slow and steady."
He took his time with each word, emphasizing them with a teasing cadence. With the way he was smiling, she couldn't help but read between the lines of his words and found herself remembering the times they were tangled up in bed.
Infuriated and embarrassed, Nadine snapped, "Can you be any more childish? Let's just let each other go, Brad. Can't we part ways on good terms? Right now, you're just making it seem like you can't let go of me! You clearly aren't cut out for this game!"
Her fair cheeks flushed with anger, and the fire burning in her almond-shaped eyes seemed ready to burst forth. Oddly enough, her current appearance reminded him of a feisty little cub. Even though her expression was fierce, she came across as almost cute—fiercely cute.
For some reason, instead of thinking her terrifying, he found her adorable. This side of Nadine was much more endearing than the gentle and demure Nadine he was used to.
