Chapter 68
“You disgust me, Aidan.” Eliana spat. Aidan smirked as he taunted, “Of course, I do - and I’ll continue to disgust you so long as you’re still living.”
“How dare you…” Eliana clenched her fists and willed herself to calm down. Even though she had not been to the temple in a long time, she prayed that Eddie would listen to her well and not fall into Aidan’s trap.
“Report your findings to the police and get Paul to take accountability for what he’d done,” Aidan ordered. Robert, who couldn’t bear to stay in the room any longer, quickly nodded before leaving the room hastily.
It seemed like Aidan and Eliana could never go back to the way that they were before ever again.
…
The next day, Paul was arrested by the police. He was as good as convicted as not only did all of the evidence point to him, the witness had also confirmed that it was Paul who’d murdered Bryan. Despite doing all that he could to save his son, no one dared to help Frank Briggs for Aidan was the one who’d reported the case.
As such, Frank and Priscilla went to the hospital to try and talk him out of getting his own cousin imprisoned - and so, they soon found themselves in Eliana’s ward, where Aidan was.
Even though Priscilla Nelson was typically a stubborn and unrelenting woman, her attitude this time around was significantly softer and more watered down. “Aidan, oh, honey - did this vixen, Eliana, do something to you? Paul is your cousin, you know - why would you believe her, an outsider, over him? He’s family, you know.”
“I believe the evidence.” Aidan retorted coldly. Frank frowned, “Aidan, you know that evidence isn’t always genuine, right? It can easily be feigned.” Aidan huffed, “Well, I suppose that’s true - but why don’t you tell that to the police instead of me?”
Frank gawked before turning to Priscilla for help - she took in a deep breath before she opened her mouth to speak, “Aidan - as the eldest daughter of the Nelson Family, I shall leverage on my seniority over you today. I want you to get Paul out of prison.”
“What?” Aidan scoffed, “Are you trying to order me? Don’t you know that I, Aidan Nelson, don’t get ordered around?”
Priscilla finally lost her temper and grabbed Aidan by the arm - “Aidan, will you please stop being so unreasonable? Your cousin did nothing wrong - besides, why are you siding with the Harvey Family over your own? Don’t you think that the Harvey Family deserves it?”
Aidan sneered as he turned to Eliana, “Hmm, that’s true - what do you think, Eliana?” Instead of saying something in reply, the latter glared at the former coldly. Aidan pursed his lips and turned back to Priscilla, “Hmm, it seems that the family member of the victim doesn’t agree - tell you what, Auntie. How about you spend your time gathering evidence to prove your son’s innocence instead of waste your time here talking to me? Perhaps I’ll help you if you’re able to gather evidence proving his innocence.”
“How dare you…!” Priscilla fumed. Alas, Aidan turned his head away to signal clearly to her that he had no intention to help her and Frank out - knowing that there was nothing more that they could do, the two scoffed before turning to leave the room.
The room soon became silent again. Eliana couldn’t help but cock a brow at Aidan - she couldn’t understand why he’d spoken in defense for her. Knowing exactly what was going through her head, Aidan scoffed haughtily, “Don’t think that I’m being nice to you - I just didn’t want to…”
“Yes, I get it,” Eliana cut Aidan off, “Trust me, I don’t believe that you’ll ever be nice to me - you’re nothing but a hateful and disdainful demon who makes my life a living hell.”
Just as Aidan was about to say something in retortion, his mobile phone rang - the former picked it up. His mood seemed to significantly improve when he heard what the person on the other end had to say - “Bring him up.” he ordered.
Aidan walked over to Eliana’s bedside with a smirk as soon as he ended the phone call - he drew his face so close to the latter’s that she could feel his hot breath tickling her face. “W-What are you going to do?” she couldn’t help but stutter warily.
“What am I going to do?” Aidan hummed, “Well, I’m going to give you a big present.”
Eliana couldn’t help but feel unsettled at the strange smirk that Aidan was giving her.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. “Come in,” Aidan instructed.
The door opened to reveal two bodyguards apprehending a young man.
Eliana’s heart shattered as soon as she saw who it was...
