Chapter 67
Aidan glared at Eliana for a while more before he finally replied, “Come in.”
Robert quickly walked in and bowed respectfully before Aidan. “I just received a phone call - it’s about the investigation pertaining to Bryan’s death. They’ve found something new.”
Eliana couldn’t help but feel curious and relieved at the same time - Aidan, on the other hand, paled at Robert’s words. Since Robert had no clue what had been going on earlier in the room, he’d assumed that it would be alright for him to report this matter in front of Eliana.
Aidan was silent for a long while before he finally spoke up, “What did they find?”
“They found a car,” Robert started, “Apparently, the car had traveled back and forth along the road near the construction site - we’ve since apprehended the driver of the car. The man matches the description that the witness has provided.”
“The man eventually admitted that he’d been bribed to beat up Bryan after being tortured for a while - however, he refused to admit that he’d killed him. We later discovered that he’d been transferred money from Master Paul Brigg’s bank account.”
“What? Paul?” Eliana couldn’t help but gasp in shock.
So it was him.
But why would he want to kill Bryan? Is there some sort of animosity between the two of them? Eliana couldn’t help but wonder.
“Did you hear that? I have nothing to do with Bryan’s death,” Aidan scowled at Eliana, “Why would I want to waste my precious time on a good-for-nothing like him?”
Eliana’s face turned grim - Paul was Aidan’s cousin. It was just as good as Aidan is responsible for the one orchestrating Bryan’s murder. Eliana couldn’t help but irk and turn away in disgust at this revelation.
Aidan instantly grew mad at Eliana’s reaction - “What are you playing at, Eliana? Who gave you the right to act so arrogantly, huh? How dare you…”
“Are you really going to threaten me again? Is that all that you can do?” Eliana couldn’t help but scoff. “Is that really all that you’re capable of? Look, Aidan, if you want to kill me now, just go ahead and do it - I won’t make a single sound.”
Aidan growled as he reached out to grip Eliana roughly by the chin once again, “You want to die? Dream on.” Eliana scoffed, “Then get your bodyguards to come back in and watch over me - they can watch over me for the rest of their lives. I’d like to see just how long they can watch over me for.”
“How dare you act so feisty!” Aidan shouted, “You’re still my wife, you know - even if you were to die, you’ll be buried with the rest of the Nelson Family. You are mine, and nothing can ever change that face - you’ll still be mine even when you die and become a ghost. Don’t ever think that you can escape me.”
“Do you really think that you can scare me with your words?” Eliana scorned, “Aidan, please, grow up and stop being so immature - I’ll forget about you as soon as I die. I’ll forget about you in all of my other lifetimes to come. I never want to see you ever again.”
Aidan was practically boiling at this point - he didn’t think that Eliana had any right to be saying such things. After all, she was the one who’d betrayed and cheated on him, the one who’d ruined his life - he’d given her so many chances, only for her to take them for granted every single time…
“I won’t let you die,” he vowed, “I want you to live to see how I’ll torture your brother and father as soon as I find them. Hate me as much as you want - I want you to feel nothing but immense hatred towards me, the man who’d ruined your life.”
Eliana couldn’t help but feel slightly worried that Aidan might actually be able to locate her brother and father - she prayed that he wouldn’t be able to do so.
“Oh, by the way,” Aidan hummed, “I forgot to mention that I’ve proclaimed you dead to the public - that I’ll be holding a funeral to honor the life that you’d lived. Hmm...do you think that your brother would come back?”
