Chapter 66
“He’s going to jail…”
Just then, Eliana slowly opened her eyes and turned to look at Aidan. He scoffed as soon as he saw that she was awake - he leaned over to grip her by the chin as he taunted, “Oh, so you’re awake now? What’s the matter, hmm? You finally want to stop pretending? Eliana, oh Eliana - did you really think that we hadn’t seen through your plan?”
Eliana glared at Aidan defiantly and did not say anything - Aidan couldn’t help but feel annoyed by this. He growled, “Just you wait, Eliana - I’ll make you pay for what you’ve done. I’ll make sure that he won’t live any much longer.”
Even though Eliana faltered slightly at Aidan’s threat, she had faith that Eddie was capable of getting their father and himself to safety - she was sure that he’d followed her instructions carefully such that they wouldn’t get caught. She prayed with all of her heart that Eddie wouldn’t fall prey to whatever trap that Aidan had in mind.
…
There had been no news of Richard and Eddie for a week.
Aidan was listening to Robert’s report for the week with a scowl on his face - the latter reported that his men had found based on surveillance by the roadside that the father and son pair had gone in a circle before going into Fame Drive. Any traces of them had vanished after they’d turned into an area where there weren’t any CCTVs.
“Are you really telling me that they’d vanished off the face of the Earth?” Aidan grunted unrelentingly. Robert pursed his lips and did not dare to say anything.
“Fame Drive...isn’t that Miss Harvey’s grandmother’s old house?” Travis couldn’t help but feel puzzled. “Yes, it is,” Robert replied, “However, we’d conducted a thorough search of her - Mrs. Caulfield’s - house only to find that there was no one.”
“Mr. Harvey should be familiar with that area - that’s probably why they were able to escape without being detected by surveillance,” Travis mused, “But surely...they wouldn’t just leave Miss Harvey behind now, would they?”
Aidan thought about it for a moment before he made up his mind - “Robert,” he said, “I want you to spread the news that Eliana had committed suicide - I want you to then make the necessary funeral preparations such that it’s as though she’d really died.”
Aidan was confident that the father and son pair would take the bait - unlike Bryan, he was sure that the two of them would never abandon Eliana just like that.
Travis wanted to say something to persuade Aidan against this decision, only to ultimately keep his mouth shut - after all, he had nothing to do with this matter. He was in no position to tell Aidan what he should and shouldn’t be doing.
As such, he did not say anything in the end.
…
After giving out the orders, Aidan returned to Eliana’s room - he’d since stationed bodyguards to keep watch over her so as to prevent her from trying anything funny. He walked over and sat by Eliana’s bedside, gesturing for the bodyguards to take their leave as he did so.
Aidan stared at Eliana for a long while before he smirked, “Fame Drive seems like a nice place,” he commented, deliberately wanting to incite a reaction out of Eliana. Sure enough, the latter’s breath hitched - alas, she turned to look out of the window, appearing nonchalant and unaffected by Aidan’s remark.
Aidan pursed his lips, “You know, I intend to demolish that damned house and use the land for some other purpose.” Alas, instead of saying anything, Eliana kept her mouth shut.
Aidan started to grow infuriated and impatient by Eliana’s stubbornness and indignance - he scowled as he grabbed her by the throat, “Eliana, do you really think that I won’t do anything to you if you keep quiet like this?”
Eliana choked out, “Oh, now you want to threaten me?” She scoffed, “You know what? If you have the means to, just kill me now - I’m all yours.” This was the first time that the former had spoken to Aidan in a long time.
Eliana knew that the reason why Aidan kept trying to threaten her was that he couldn’t locate her brother and father no matter how hard he tried - she knew that she had to stand firm and not fall for the latter’s deliberate jabs.
Eliana hated Aidan to the core - she longed to grab him by the hair and drag him down into the depths of hell together with her, for everything that he’d done to her and her family...she vowed that she would crush him under her feet and emerge victorious one day.
“You’re really pushing your luck, hmm?” Aidan scowled as he exerted pressure on Eliana’s throat - even though her face was starting to turn red, the latter retorted, “That’s right - I have a death wish. I’ll rather die than see your stupid face.”
“How dare you…”
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
“Who’s there?!” Aidan shouted angrily.
“Second Young Master, it’s me, Robert,” Robert replied, “I have something urgent to report to you.”
