Chapter 74

Eliana instantly froze - Isn’t he asleep? Why did he suddenly wake up? Seeing that she did not reply, Aidan growled as he surged forward to take the pills from Eliana. He asked sharply, “What kind of medicine is this?” He narrowed his eyes at the latter as he leaned in towards her, “Do you really think that you’ll be able to get away with not telling me, hmm? I have men who can help me find out what they are, you know.” Eliana couldn’t help but feel a shudder run down her spine - she was frightened that she’d been caught red-handed by Aidan for some reason. After willing herself to simmer down, Eliana replied calmly, “They’re birth control pills.” “What?” Aidan was instantly infuriated, “Who said that you could take them?” Eliana shrugged, “Well, I did.” “You?” Aidan snarled as he reached out to grab Eliana by the throat, “Who said that you could take them, huh?” Eliana retorted, “Didn’t I tell you a long time ago that I don’t want to bear you a child? You don’t deserve it.” Aidan growled as he pinned Eliana against a table in the room, “Eliana, oh, Eliana - you’re really asking for death, aren’t you?” “So what if I’m asking for it? It’s not like you would actually give it to me anyway,” Eliana replied nonchalantly, “After all, you don’t want to kill me - you want to keep me alive as long as possible so that you and Laura can torment and play with me however you like.” “You’re still so defiant, I see,” Aidan sneered, “I’m going to make you do everything that you’re unwilling to do - let’s see how you’ll take it then.” Aidan then got up, hurled the pills onto the ground, and crushed them with his feet - Eliana could do nothing but look on helplessly as the former got rid of her pills. “A-Aidan…” she stammered helplessly. “You’re right, Eliana - I don’t want to kill you,” Aidan scowled, “I want to keep you alive so that I can impregnate you. After you’ve given birth, I’ll give your child to Laura - this is what I’d promised her.” Eliana’s heart sank as she thought about the way that Laura had treated Evan - “No, I don’t want to. I refuse,” she said adamantly, “I’ll never give you a chance to hurt my child.” “Hurt?” Aidan scoffed as he threw Eliana onto the bed and pressed himself onto her, “The only hurt that your child would get is to have a mother like you.” “Aidan - why do you trust Laura so much?” Eliana placed a hand on Aidan’s shoulder to establish some distance between them as she cried out, “Have you ever wondered why a wonderful child like Evan would become mute? If Laura actually treated him well…” “She’s the perfect mother for Evan,” Aidan cut Eliana off, “After all, she has been caring for him for the past two years now - she has always done the best that she can for him.” Even though Eliana knew that Aidan would probably not believe her, she wanted to try just one more time to convince him for Evan’s sake, “Aidan, for God’s sake - hate me as much as you want, but can you please pay attention to Evan for once?” Eliana sighed exasperatedly, “Can’t you see that he has been mistreated and abused over the past two years…” Aidan clasped his hand over Eliana’s mouth such that she couldn’t speak, “Laura would never stoop to your level,” he growled, “You don’t deserve to critique her.” Just then, there was a knock on the door - “Who is it?” Aidan called out in a rather irritated voice. “Second Young Master, it’s me,” Robert replied, “She says that she has something urgent to talk to you about.” Aidan glared at Eliana before leaving her to get dressed. He then walked over to the door to allow Robert in - the latter averted his eyes from Eliana respectfully. “Were you the one who’d given those pills to Eliana?” Aidan asked gruffly. Robert couldn’t help but gulp internally. Just as he was about to admit to it and be resigned to his fate, Eliana piped up, “No, it was me who’d stolen them from Robert’s room - I’ve seen him place them inside before. That’s why I took the opportunity to steal them from his room while he was gone.” Aidan glared at Eliana before turning to Robert, “I’m warning you now that you’ll be the one to blame should I find her taking any more contraception in the future - have I made myself clear?” “Yes, Second Young Master,” Robert replied respectfully - he was immensely grateful towards Eliana for taking the fall for him. Just then, Laura walked into the room - she couldn’t help but fume internally at the sight of Aidan in Eliana’s room. She assumed that her cousin must’ve seduced Aidan and lured him into her room… “Laura? What’s wrong?” Aidan asked Laura in a significantly softer tone. “Aidan, oh, Aidan - I don’t know what to do,” Laura cried out anxiously, “It’s Evan - he has a high fever. It doesn’t look like it’ll be subsiding any sooner…”
