Chapter 81
Travis couldn’t help but sigh internally - it seemed no matter how hard he tried to make his friend realize his true feelings, Aidan remained blind to the fact that he still loved Eliana.
Meanwhile, Robert had been carrying his camera around and taking photos with every opportunity that he got - just then, he spotted Eliana and Evan, who seemed to be in their own little world, from a distance. Upon realizing that he’d yet to take any photos of them, Robert raised his camera to take a photo of the two of them.
Eliana heard the sound of the camera shutter going off and turned around - when she noticed that it was Robert taking photos, she smiled at him delicately and pleasantly. She then got up with Evan in her arms and pointed at Robert. And so, Robert took many beautiful photos of Eliana and Evan looking into the camera…
Soon enough, it was time for lunch - everyone gathered around to sit and eat together. Travis couldn’t help but feel impressed at just how well Eliana was taking care of Evan - he praised, “Ellie, you would make a wonderful mother.” Eliana froze slightly at the word ‘mother’ - she then cleared her throat slightly as she replied nonchalantly, “Even though my child hadn’t made it, I used to fantasize about how I would raise my child when I’d been pregnant...I guess that must’ve helped in a way.”
Travis wanted to slap himself after realizing that he’d hit a sore spot - “Ellie, I’m sorry. What I meant was…” Just before he could finish his sentence, Megan snorted, “Shameless and cheap people don’t deserve to become mothers.” Eliana smirked, “You’re right, Miss Briggs.” She then shifted her gaze to Laura.
Aidan couldn’t help but slam his fist down onto the table in anger at this - “You really can’t go a day without hurting others, can you now, Eliana?” he growled. “What did I do this time around?” Eliana asked innocently. “Stop pretending like you’re all innocent and faultless, it’s absolutely revolting.” Aidan snarled.
“You’re mocking Laura for being infertile, aren’t you?” Megan scorned, “Haven’t you ever stopped to ask yourself why she’d ended up the way that she is today? Wasn’t it all because of you?” Eliana shrugged, “It was the men who’d had their way with her who made her end up like this - what do I have to do with it?”
Just as Aidan was about to lose his temper, Travis got up and raised his glass, “Guys, guys, please, stop fighting - didn’t we all come out here to relax and have a good time? I’m sorry, I was the one who’d said something wrong earlier - here, let me make up for my insensitive words by downing a glass of wine.” He then proceeded to down the glass of wine in one swift gulp.
Aidan couldn’t help but cock a brow at his friend - he didn’t know what was up with him on this day. Was he trying to side with Eliana? Was it unintentional or on purpose? “Alright, alright, once again, I apologize for my insensitive words,” Travis said, trying to de-escalate the situation, “Come on, now - let’s all have dinner, eh?”
Just then, Megan, who’d been studying Evan for a while now, couldn’t help but comment, “Laura, don’t you think that Evan takes a resemblance to both you and Aidan?” Aidan glared at Megan, “No one asked for your opinion.” Megan shrugged, “I was simply stating my opinion.”
Laura crooned as she reached out to stroke Evan’s hair even though the little boy was trying to stand as far away from her as he could - “Perhaps, it’s meant to be - I’ve vowed countless of times to raise Evan well such that he would turn out to be an excellent man like Aidan…”
As she continued to run her fingers through Evan’s hair, Laura mused internally, Evan, oh, Evan...I’m sorry, but there’s no way that you can go home alive today...
