Chapter 82
Laura winked to the nanny whom she’d brought along with her after dinner - upon receiving her cue, the nanny stepped forward and whispered to her, “Miss Collins, I’ll take Miss Harvey and the Little Master to the bed of flowers that I’d seen earlier when I went for a walk.” Laura nodded, “Alright, you may go ahead.”
And so, the nanny walked over to take Evan’s hand. “Miss Harvey and Little Master, let’s go for a walk,” she suggested. Eliana couldn’t help but have a bad feeling about how things were going to turn out - she couldn’t help but feel as though there was something off about Laura’s behavior…
Seeing that Eliana remained where she stood, Laura cocked a brow at her, “What’s the matter, Ellie?” she asked. Eliana ignored her and turned to Aidan, “Would it be alright if I don’t go?”
“Of course it’ll be alright, Ellie,” Laura interjected, “But I must say, it’ll be a little mean of you to turn Evan down just because you have a vendetta against me…” Aidan couldn’t help but growl unhappily at this, “Who said that you had the right to choose what you want to do?” he scoffed at Eliana, “You shall do whatever that I ask you to do.”
As such, Eliana had no choice but to go together with the nanny and Evan. Sure enough, they came across a bed of flowers on their walk. Eliana squatted down and inhaled the fragrance of the flowers - “It smells good, doesn’t it?” she asked Evan in a soft voice.
Just then, Evan picked a flower and gave it to Eliana. “Oh, is this for me?” Eliana asked happily. She then tucked the flower behind her ear and asked the little boy, “How does it look on me? Do you think it looks good?” Evan blinked slightly before giving Eliana a soft smile of approval.
Eliana was about to say something to Evan when she heard rustling coming from behind her - it was two masked men running towards where they were. Eliana immediately scooped Evan up into her arms and sprinted off - she yelled frantically, “Help! Someone, please, help me!”
However, no one could hear her cries as Eliana was too far away from where Aidan and the others were. Just then, the nanny stuck out her foot to trip Eliana with it. Even when she fell onto the ground, Eliana held onto Evan tightly and continued to protect him. Soon enough, the two men caught up to them - one of them apprehended Eliana while the other took Evan from her.
Eliana knew that she’d fallen into Laura’s trap when she realized that the two men were not going after the nanny. “Miss Harvey, please don’t blame me - I was merely following Miss Collins’ orders,” one of the men explained, “Miss Collins wanted me to tell you...that you’re the reason why Evan is dead.”
Eliana was alarmed by the man’s words - even though she tried her best to break free from his grasp, she was no match for the man. Just then, she saw the man who had taken Evan throw him into the lake without hesitation - Eliana screamed, “No, no! He’s just a child! Why! Aidan, where are you? Please, come and save Evan...please, Aidan…”
Alas, as usual, Aidan was not there for Eliana when she needed him the most. She could do nothing but watch as Evan struggled to stay afloat in the water for a while before eventually sinking to the bottom of the lake - after making sure that Evan did not resurface, the man who had been restraining Eliana let go of her. The two men then sprinted away.
As soon as the man had let go of her, Eliana ran over and hurled herself into the lake without any hesitation - upon spotting Evan in the water, Eliana swam as deeply as she could before managing to grab him by the wrist. She then tried to swim back up to the surface, only to find that her limbs were cramping up and that the water current was so strong that she could barely stay afloat.
Eliana feared that this was going to be the end as she felt water rapidly gushing into her nose…
