CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN – NEVER GIVING UP
Cassie nodded reluctantly. "Okay. How do we reach him?"
Florian pulled out a burner phone they'd picked up along the way. "I've got a number. It's old, but hopefully still works. I'll give him a call in the morning."
They spent a restless night, taking turns keeping watch. As dawn broke, Florian stepped outside to make the call, leaving Cassie anxiously pacing the small room.
When he returned, his expression was unreadable. "I left a message. Now we wait."
The next few days passed in a haze of tension and boredom. They ventured out only for necessities, always on high alert. Cassie dyed her hair a mousy brown, while Florian grew out his beard. They did their best to blend in with the locals, spending time at a small diner down the street to avoid suspicion.
On their third evening in Port Haven, they sat in a booth at the diner, picking at greasy burgers. The TV above the counter droned on, barely audible over the clinking of cutlery and muted conversations.
