When Judy returned with the cup of warm milk, the house was in complete silence. Mabel was already sleeping soundly with the phone by the side of the pillow. The call was still connected. Judy tucked the children in bed before picking the phone up and heading to the balcony. She gently asked, "Hello, are you still there?" "Hmm." "We must have woken you up. Mabel's asleep." "I know." "Did you come to the city to see the fireworks?" "I can see them even in the outskirts." The Jones mansion was not far from Clark's summer resort. It was only a half an hour's drive. "You're right. Natalie insists that we won't be able to see it from here. She made me go all the way to the city only to find out that the fireworks had been canceled, but luckily it came back on again." "Did you see something you like?" "Well, there was Mabel's favorite bunny." "It's late. Are you not tired?" Judy looked at the time. "It is late. Are you about to head to bed?" "No. I'm outside." She could hear the car door closing on the phone too. Judy was stunned for a while until she saw Clark waving at her. Then, she hung up and headed downstairs. She put on a huge coat but remained in her pajamas. She headed out to see Clark standing by the gates. She was so stunned she did not know how to react. "Why are you here?" "I thought Mabel was going to make a fuss about not going to bed. I was thinking maybe I could come and take her with me. Who would have thought she fell asleep? Since I'm here, I have something to give you." "What is it?" Clark took three tiny gifts out from his coat pocket. "Why three? There are only two children." "The other one is for you." "I'm in my 30's." "One is never too old for gifts." Judy smiled and accepted it. "I'll take it then. I'm too late this year. I'll remember to prepare one for you for next year." "It's late. You should head to bed." Judy scanned around. "It's fine. Since you're already here. Let's go for a walk. There should still be a 24-hour bodega nearby. We can go and grab something to eat." There was only one 24-hour bodega open nearby. Other than the staff, there was no one in the store. The cashier was almost fast asleep when the bell on the door rang. She immediately woke up. "Can I help you?" Judy grabbed a few packets of snacks and some drinks. "Just these." The cashier could not help but cast a few more glances at Clark's handsome face. She blushed a little. "This is buy-one-free-one today. You can get more." Judy smiled. "Alright then. I'll get one more of each." After paying, they sat down in the corner of the bodega. From the angle of the cashier, they looked like a perfect match.
