Chapter 3
After Timothy left, the system came back online.
"That was a very effective ploy there, Rosalie."
"What ploy?" I asked.
"Committing suicide, of course," the system answered. "Target One's affection meter has increased so greatly. Why don't we continue giving it our all, hm?"
I refused.
Timothy's affection for me had only increased 20% after I jumped to my death. This meant he clearly didn't care about me. So, why should I continue my mission?
Just when I was thinking about going somewhere to die, I received a phone call.
"Aurum Garden, Room 308. You have 30 minutes."
Before I could respond, the caller had hung up.
That was my third target—Tyrone Ryker.
Tyrone was a lawyer, so we only ever managed to meet up at night. He had insomnia, and he was only able to fall asleep by hugging me.
It started with nothing more than actual sleeping. Then, one night, after having too much to drink, Tyrone started getting handsy with me.
"I really like you, Rosalie. I'll take responsibility for you, I promise," Tyrone said while I was struggling in his grip.
Love had never clouded my judgment. However, Tyrone was one handsome devil. He had the face of a movie star and the body of a gym trainer.
All I did was make a mistake any woman would've made.
Anyway, I started paying attention to the affection meter above Tyrone's head from that night onward.
I wasn't discouraged when I found out it had only reached 30%. I figured I'd be able to make it reach 100% one day.
So, I did everything I could to treat him well. I cooked for him, I helped him heal his childhood trauma, I did everything he asked of me.
Just when I thought I might truly win Tyrone's heart over by doing all these, I overheard something he said to his friends.
"I don't have much affection for her, to be honest. She's just an easy lay, nothing more. It's Elise that I like."
Elise Irving was one of Tyrone's best friends. Everyone in his friend group doted on her.
Elise started targeting me after Tyrone brought me to one of their friends' gatherings once. Whenever we met up, Elise would make inappropriate jokes toward me and speak to Tyrone in a suggestive manner.
Her tactics didn't work on me at first. Compared to these insults to my character, I hated the way Samantha would physically torment me more.
When Elise found out that these tricks wouldn't work on me, she grew meaner.
Elise made Tyrone take intimate photos and short videos of me. She'd always put them out for show whenever they had their private gatherings. I had to either purchase the content or win it back via gambling.
When I first heard that Elise was doing this, I got so angry that I wanted to call the police.
However, Tyrone threatened me instead. "I'm a lawyer, remember? Even if you call the cops, I'll still be able to find a way to bail Elise out. I can guarantee that no real threat will come to Elise. But can you guarantee that your reputation won't be affected once those videos of you are released on the internet?"
I could not.
Plus, I still had two other men to tackle.
Crossing their first loves would only result in my own torment. However, if they found out that they'd been nothing more than backups, I might actually die.
I'd wanted to ignore Tyrone's call at first. After all, I hadn't planned on continuing my mission of winning him over anymore.
Then, I thought—rather than letting them publicize those illicit videos of me, why don't I drag them all down with me instead?
So, I left the house with my phone in hand.
I arrived at Aurum Garden 10 minutes late. Elise's sickly sweet face appeared before me the moment I opened the door.
"You're late, Rosalie. As per our rules, you have to be punished for that. We'll be adding an additional 100 thousand dollar fee to your photos, otherwise they'll be released online!" Elise said, giggling sweetly.
Tyrone was seated on a couch behind her with a look of utter adoration on his face.
"Release them then," I said without hesitation.
