Chapter 6
I swallowed my tears and struggled to drag my legs, which ached deep into the bone.
From the drawer, I pulled out the divorce papers I had prepared long ago. Beside them was the medical report detailing the injuries I suffered eight years ago while saving someone in Tazharan.
I placed them all in plain sight, alongside a voice recorder.
As I clung to the windowsill, I struggled to pull myself up.
Below the villa, the sea restlessly surged. Not far off, a small, inconspicuous boat had quietly drifted near.
Just then, Maverick's message flashed on my phone.
"Have you realized your mistake yet? Just come over and apologize to Yana. She's willing to forgive you.
"I've already spoken up for you. Don't make this harder than it has to be. Just be reasonable, okay?"
I replied, "My biggest mistake was saving a man one night eight years ago in Tazharan Harbor. He'd been dressed in black and had gotten stabbed eight times."
Then, I tossed the phone aside and leaped into the sea.
