Chapter 39: The Silent Dedication of a Good Man
"Ebels just came to see me." Haeqin began to change the subject, not being good at it, so the shift was quite abrupt.
Thomas saw through her but didn't call her out on it, asking instead, "What did he say?"
"He basically wants me to compete with you for the position of heir," Haeqin shrugged, looking indifferent.
Thomas became interested, asking with a smile, "So, does sis want to be the heir?"
"No!" Haeqin refused without hesitation. "If he hadn't mentioned releasing my mother, I wouldn't even want to see him."
Thomas found this response amusing. "It's interesting that he's pitting two people uninterested in inheritance against each other. We'll just have to play along for his sake."
This matter wasn't difficult. What Haeqin cared about was something else entirely.
With her thoughts in mind, Haeqin and Thomas got into the car, hardly speaking all the way.
She carefully weighed her words, but even when they arrived at Bonnie's doorstep, she still hadn't asked the question.
