Paul looked a bit uneasy, choosing his words carefully. “Mr. Wright's still in a meeting. Maybe you'd like to sit and wait, ma'am?”
I forced myself to stay calm and sat down in the lounge.
He handed me a cup of coffee. “Ma’am, why did you leave early that day? Mr. Wright went crazy looking for you.”
I raised an eyebrow, puzzled. “Crazy? About what, exactly?”
Wasn’t he just pissed because I ignored him and left with Jordan? He called me a dozen times out of anger, not worry—what’s he spinning this into?
Paul frowned.
“There are ways to track someone down overseas, but your phone was off, no replies, room empty... Mr. Wright looked like he was losing it. I’ve never seen him that shaken.”
“If I hadn’t found the note you left in the hotel room, he probably would've called the cops. He was even thinking of dragging people to look for you.”
That surprised me a little—not that I'd show it. I just let out a short “Oh,” then took a sip of coffee, all nonchalant.
