After wrapping everything up, Evelyn Knight went to the parking lot to wait for Julian Everett like they’d planned. But he never showed up. She’d already been waiting over an hour, not counting the thirty minutes she prepped before coming down—during which they had confirmed the time. Glancing at the time again, she pulled out her phone to call Julian. No one answered. She opened the car door and, after asking around, found out which floor Julian’s grandmother was staying on. After a moment’s thought, she decided to head there. His grandmother was in one of the hospital’s VIP rooms with a caregiver assigned to her. The room was private, but right now it was empty. Evelyn stood outside, double-checking the room number to make sure she had the right place and floor. Then she turned and walked over to the nurse station to ask why no one was inside. “The elderly woman’s still in the ER—they’re trying to resuscitate her,” the nurse said, gesturing toward the emergency room. Evelyn nodded so
