Chapter 819 I Miss You

Tamara couldn’t hold it in anymore. Tears started to roll down her cheeks. She quickly turned her head away from Old Mrs. Moore. But Old Mrs. Moore misunderstood Tamara’s action. She thought Tamara didn’t accept her apologies. Her reaction made the old woman anxious. “Please don’t ignore me, Alex. I’m sorry. I really am. Won’t you look at me, Alex? Alex…” It took everything within Tamara to keep all her bitterness and sadness in check. She wiped her tears away and turned back to Old Mrs. Moore. She smiled, “What are you talking about? Why would I be angry with you? I’m doing fine in Londsville. I have a loving husband and two good children. They’re very obedient…” Old Mrs. Moore stared dotingly at Tamara. “That’s my Alex. You’ll always be the brightest star in the sky. You’ll fit right in anywhere.” “Of course!” Tamara nodded but couldn’t bring herself to meet Old Mrs. Moore’s gaze. She was afraid she would cry again if she did. Old Mrs. Moore held Tamara’s hand tightly. “It was my fault, Alex. I shouldn’t have left you alone. You’ve been gone for thirty years…” Tamara pursed her lips and said nothing. The floodgates might open if she did. Old Mrs. Moore continued, “I’m such a fool. How could I have left my daughter alone? So what if he was a bastard son? That was nothing. I should have let you two have your happily ever after…” Tamara listened to the old woman quietly. Old Mrs. Moore soon grew tired. Tamara immediately piped up, “Maybe you should get some rest.” Old Mrs. Moore nodded. “You should get some rest too. I’ll be here when you need me. Feel free to visit me anytime.” Tamara nodded. She stood up and helped Old Mrs. Moore settle onto the bed before pulling the covers over her. “I’ll get going now,” smiled Tamara. Old Mrs. Moore returned the smile. “Okay.” Tamara turned and left for the door. Just then, the old woman’s voice sounded from behind her. “I miss you, Alex.” Tamara was totally devastated by that sentence. She quickly left the ward while covering her mouth with her hand to contain her sobs. She only knew bits and pieces of what had happened in the past, but the entire story remained a mystery to her. On the other hand, Tamara had learned a lot about her grandma’s feelings toward her mother since she awoke and mistook her for her mother. Within Old Mrs. Moore, there swirled a potent mix of emotions—sadness, regret, longing, and bitterness—all of which were amplified by the guilt she bore for Alex. All those emotions swirled together and flooded over Tamara. She was finding it hard to breathe from the overbearing emotions. She felt terrible for her grandma. She felt bad for her mother. They might have reconciled all those years ago if they had just let down their pride. Things wouldn’t have turned out like this. After the waves of sadness, Tamara finally recollected herself after crying her heart out. Suddenly, someone gave her a tissue. Tamara accepted it without hesitation. “Thank you.” After wiping her snot and tears clean, she straightened up and saw that George had given her the tissue. He gave her a helpless look. “Do I look ugly, Master?” joked Tamara. George patted her head dotingly. “Not at all, but you’ve seen better days.” Tamara finally calmed down. She continued, “Didn’t you say you would be home for the next two days? Why are you here?” Something flashed across George’s eyes. He shrugged, “I thought of another way to make the antidote. So I decided to come over. I didn’t expect to see a crying mess, though.” The corners of Tamara’s lips twitched. “Please stop teasing me, Master. You should get on with your work. I have to go too.” George nodded. “Okay.” Tamara headed for the lift. Just then, her phone rang. She answered the call. “Miss Tammy. I have brought the herbs back. I have just arrived at the airport, but I think someone is following me. Please send someone to pick me up!”
