For a moment, I had no idea what to say. It wasn't until Charles switched on the light that he noticed all my bruises. My entire body was covered in purple marks, like someone had beaten me. They stood out starkly against my pale skin. "What happened?" His face darkened instantly as he checked those wounds. I lowered my head on purpose, acting as though I was afraid of something. He began to coax me, almost like he was comforting a child, "Shay, I'm your man. You can trust me. Tell me. Are these injuries related to Lilith?" Right then, he forgot everything else.
