Handing some documents to the media agent—something I thought could aid his investigation—I slowly spun in my office armchair to face the window blinds.
The media agent responded, "Okay, ma'am," creaked the door open and left.
"I'm so proud of you, Marie," Claire, my daughter's nanny, said as she entered one of the empty chairs. She had brought Angelica and herself to the company to visit me.
"You're handling everything like a machine," she teased. Claire's calming presence was an immediate comfort and helped brighten my mood.
"Thanks, Claire. I couldn't do it without you," I said to her, smiling. It hit me then that I hadn't smiled for hours.
