Chapter 126 Sneaking off to Find Macie

Jake and Ellie shared a quick look, both of them totally lost. The market was so loud that they couldn't hear what Otto said to Macie. All they saw was him yanking her away while she fought to pull free. From the way things had just gone down, Macie seemed to have gotten herself mixed up with someone new now that she was a widow, and he apparently had a bad temper. Cameron broke the silence first. He turned to Audrey with just the right hint of apology, his voice softening as he said, "Night gets chilly. You're not dressed for it. I'll grab you a jacket. Stay with Mrs. Burke for a bit." He stood and, almost without thinking, brushed a few loose strands away from her cheek. Audrey looked up at him, fully aware he was using the jacket as an excuse to slip off and find Macie. She gave a small nod and let it go.
