Chapter 183

Confusion was written on everyone's faces, including Scarlett's. As she gazed at the members of the Myer family, her heart filled with panic. It was clear that this was their family dinner, just as Grace had warned her. Scarlett couldn't help but feel out of place, especially with Leroy by her side. All eyes were on her and she did her best to appear composed. "Scarlett, you're here." A lean man stepped out toward her. It was Matthew, standing tall and straight with no trace of the chubby boy he once was. Scarlett was taken aback, not expecting him to have changed so much since they last saw each other. Scarlett's smile widened as she finally laid eyes on Mr. Myer. "You've been gone for so long, without even a word to let us know when you returned," she remarked. The Myer family members all turned their gaze toward the newcomer, curious about his sudden appearance. Leroy, who had been listening to their conversation, felt slightly confused. He could tell from their interaction that Scarlett and Mr. Myer were old acquaintances. "Hey, I'm back. I figured I'd throw a private party tonight," Matthew announced. "I didn't reach out to you because I thought you were busy." "I heard the Payne Group went public too. You're quite the famous CEO now," Matthew grinned as he struck up a casual conversation with Scarlett. Feeling uninterested, Leroy took a seat and slumped into it. He couldn't care less about this Myer family that Scarlett seemed to be so fascinated with. Why had she dragged him along? Was she trying to impress him in some way? Leroy shook his head, his thoughts becoming more tangled and confusing by the minute. Scarlett easily connected with the members of the Myer family, while Leroy felt like an outsider. Just as he was contemplating an excuse to leave, Scarlett suddenly appeared at his side. "Come on. Let's go meet Mr. Myer Senior from the Myer family," Scarlett said in a serious tone, completely different from her previous cheerful demeanor. Leroy's doubts were finally put to rest. This was the real reason why Scarlett had brought him here. "So, you wanted me to come and heal Mr. Myer Senior, then use me to gain their favor?" At that moment, Leroy realized what was truly going on. Scarlett's brows knitted together in concern. "Leroy, I should have told you about this sooner. But now is not the time for you to sulk. As a doctor, you must come with me and examine Mr. Myer Senior." Leroy was left with no room for argument after Scarlett's words. At the head of the table, William sat in a wheelchair, his face drained of color. Matthew positioned himself in front of Scarlett, blocking her path. Matthew's doubts were written all across his face as he turned to Leroy and asked, "Lettie, are you really serious about this? Can this man truly cure him?" Scarlett pursed her lips and whispered, "He's my ex-husband. He's the one who cured me." Matthew's face conveyed a mixture of understanding and amusement, while a twinkle appeared in his eyes. "Dr. Olson, just give it your best effort. We've come to terms with the outcome for Mr. Myer Senior. Don't feel pressured," Matthew reassured Leroy, patting him on the shoulder. Leroy ignored Matthew's words, fixated on Scarlett. Did she find him being her ex-husband shameful? "Grandpa, this is Dr. Olson. He assisted Ms. Payne in healing her leg and is a well-known doctor at Ashbourne Medical," Matthew said, leading William toward the group. William gave Leroy a solemn look before turning to Matthew. "I don't mean to sound critical, but foreign doctors haven't been able to help. Can we trust this young man?"
