Chapter 184

Beside William sat Nancy, the eldest daughter-in-law of the Myer family and also Matthew's stepmother. Despite her exquisite appearance, it was difficult to determine her age—to outsiders, she appeared to be in her early 30s. She had more of an elder sister vibe than that of a stepmother to Matthew. Andrew, the head of the Myer family, was absent. It was clear that Matthew was now responsible for handling all matters on his behalf. This alone spoke volumes about Matthew's status within the family. Scarlett had never met Nancy before, but she could tell that she was already married to Matthew's father. As Nancy spoke, both Matthew and Scarlett furrowed their brows in response to her inappropriate words. "Nancy, everyone can see Leroy's talent. You may not have heard of him since the Myer family has been out of the country. "I got in a car accident and hurt my leg. Even the specialists couldn't figure it out, but Leroy was able to solve the issue. And he hasn't even started yet. How can you doubt his abilities?" Scarlett spoke with a mix of confidence and modesty that caught Leroy off guard. It was the first time she had stood up for him like this. However, when Leroy realized that Scarlett's words had only been said for the benefit of Payne Group, his heart was consumed with resentment. "If Dr. Olson is so sure, then let him take a look," Matthew retorted with a chilly expression. Nancy no longer attempted to intervene. The room was filled with curious onlookers, and she feared that any further action would bring unwanted attention and potential consequences upon herself. Leroy approached William without a word, crouching in front of him with a small smile. "Mr. Myer Senior, trust me, I'll do everything I can." Leroy refrained from making any grand guarantees. He had always been able to find the correct treatment for any ailment in the last three years, leading to Scarlett's successful recovery. But this sudden and unexpected turn of events left Leroy just as concerned for himself. Matthew observed from the side, occasionally glancing at Scarlett with uncertainty. Scarlett also began to fret, wondering how she would explain to the Myer family if Leroy couldn't do it. A mix of emotions flooded through her, and she even started to regret her decision. Leroy was unaware of Scarlett's thoughts as he focused on William in front of him. "Don't worry, kid. I've seen many people about my leg, but nothing has worked so far. I've accepted my fate," William said, sympathizing with Leroy's current struggle. Leroy was silent for a moment. "Mr. Myer Senior, there is a solution for your leg issue, but it requires a specialized approach. I recommend going to the hospital for an in-depth examination so I can devise the best course of action." Leroy replied with his suggestion. William was taken aback, and even the other Myer family members next to him seemed intrigued. "Are you serious? Several specialists have claimed that there is no solution for Mr. Myer Senior's leg. Can you truly fix it?" questioned one of the Myers, their tone laced with skepticism. Leroy gave a small nod. "I don't think it's appropriate to make jokes about this," he said seriously. "The odds are about forty percent, but if you can go to the hospital for a thorough examination, I will feel more reassured." The Myer family fell silent at Leroy's words. Matthew, in particular, seemed to have doubts. Scarlett noticed the Myer family's reaction and felt a slight twinge of nervousness. "Scarlett, thank you for coming today. I appreciate your concern for my grandpa's condition." Matthew's tone made it clear that he wanted them to leave. Scarlett was caught off guard and instinctively looked at Leroy. Leroy's expression had turned into a frown. "Mr. Myer, what I said is true..." Before Leroy could finish his sentence, Matthew interjected.
