Chapter 185

"Dr. Olson, we should take some time to carefully consider this. It's not that we don't have faith in you. Thank you for your efforts today." Matthew's tone was chilly and tinged with impatience. Leroy was ready to continue arguing, but Scarlett intervened. "Let's go, Leroy. We shouldn't disturb Mr. Myer any longer." With that, Scarlett led Leroy away without hesitation. The voices of the Myer family's murmurs lingered behind them. Leroy exited the restaurant and stood by the roadside, letting the cool night breeze wash over him. Scarlett simply gave him a disdainful look. "Let's go. Thank you for your hard work today." Her casual words seemed to justify her behavior. Hearing this, Leroy's suppressed emotions finally erupted. "In your eyes, I'm nothing but a pawn that you can use however you please. When did you become this way, Scarlett?" he demanded. But she just let out a cold laugh. "Leroy, you should consider yourself lucky. At least you have some use to me. Do you really think you're capable of treating Mr. Myer Senior?" Scarlett looked at him with a hint of skepticism in her eyes. Leroy sneered at Scarlett's reaction. She was still worried about such trivial matters, even after everything he had just told her. He shook his head with a helpless smile. "Scarlett, I've said all I can. You heard me." With a dismissive wave of his hand, Leroy hailed a taxi. "I'll be taking care of Yvonne in the hospital for a while and also making sure Grandma gets her meals. I hope Ms. Payne can understand." And with that, Leroy closed the car door without giving Scarlett a chance to respond. She pinched her palm and bit her lip out of frustration as she watched him leave. As Scarlett stood on the sidewalk, a car pulled up beside her. The window rolled down at a leisurely pace, revealing Matthew's familiar face. "Ms. Payne, you left so suddenly earlier. I didn't get a chance to have a proper conversation with you," Matthew's eyes conveyed warmth as he spoke. Without giving it much thought, Scarlett got into the car. "Why wasn't Dr. Olson here?" Matthew asked with curiosity evident in his tone. Scarlett was caught off guard, her response coming out as an embarrassed smile before she continued, "Leroy went back first. I feel terrible about what took place today. I never anticipated things going this way." Scarlett's voice held an apologetic tone, but Matthew laughed in response. "Scarlett, there is no need for you to apologize. In fact, I should be the one apologizing. The Myer family has had some negative experiences with doctors in the past, so we tend to be cautious around them." Matthew paused before asking, "By the way, are you truly divorced?" Scarlett was taken aback by this revelation, but she quickly composed herself and nodded in understanding. "I only turned to Leroy out of desperation. But he has proven himself to be very capable. Perhaps we could bring Mr. Myer Senior to meet with him." Matthew smiled at her response. "Let Mr. Myer Senior decide on this matter. Scarlett, what was your purpose for coming to see me tonight?" Scarlett was surprised by Matthew's directness. She hadn't expected him to be so straightforward. "Mr. Myer, I'm not sure what you're implying." She decided to play dumb, but Matthew just smiled and said, "Scarlett, it's great to see you again, but I hope you can be as honest with me as you were when we were kids."
