In the next few days, Elliot uncharacteristically stayed by Mabel's side while she was bedridden. He bought the best supplements for her and also hired the best caretaker to look after her. He even personally fed her her medication. A week later, Elliot brought Mabel home to join a family banquet. At the dining table, Claire Wickham, Elliot's mother, suddenly asked, "Have the two of you decided when you're going to have a baby?" Shockingly, Elliot nodded and said, "We're preparing for it." Mabel stared at him in disbelief. On the way home, she couldn't help herself and asked, "The one you love is Zoe, right? Won't she get angry if you have a child with me?" Besides, there was no way that Mabel was going to have Elliot's child. Elliot kept his eyes trained on the road. His voice was calm when he replied, "I know that you love me a lot, but I will never fall for you. I won't allow you to grow old by yourself, so I'm going to give you a child. It's the best compensation I can offer
